Brian Presnell from KR Inc, a Seattle Leica Geosystem reseller, hit me up to go on a Bike Ride the weekend of 7/17/2020. He told me he had just scanned the KR training room with the Leica RTC360 and wanted to do something creative with the DATA. We worked together importing the DATA into Register 360, adding in Metadata and exporting using Publisher Pro. to a Jetstream file. We then tagged up the data for fun inside of Jetstream and exported a new published LGS File. I put the file on an open link and I challenge anyone to download it and enjoy Jetstream art as much as we did. We also created a quick video, with some quick and easy pointers to show just how easy Jetstream is to use. I hope you enjoy…
It’s been along time coming but its finally here. A pretty Major firmware update the really addresses the issue many of the PRO’s Reality Capture guys have been complaining about. I will quickly address my favorite updates. Also like always I have downloaded the update and make it available here on my site. RTC360 Firmware
- Check and Adjust RTC360 Level of Horizontal and Vertical Accuracy
This feature has been a long time coming. I love the fact you can run a 51 second scan. Check the current angular accuracy and accept the new angular parameters to improve the angular accuracy of the instrument. I will be testing this over the next few weeks and am extremely hopeful that in use with my tribrach this will provide even cleaner more accurate data.
2. Format Leica RTC360 USB Drive
If I could count on two hands how many times I get out to a scan project with RTC360 Drives that are completely full, this is a life saver. This could prove extremely helpful but keep in mind you over right the drive and all the older information is lost. Make sure to back up data daily. I honestly wonder how many people will overwrite drives that have not been back up…
Now this one feels a little scary.
3. Tilt and altitude sanity check
My first assumption after reading this is, you might want to run step
1. Check and Adjust RTC360 Level of Horizontal and Vertical Accuracy
before utilizing this step and it sounds like it verify’s against the current accuracy.
“The tilt and altitude information provided by the VIS system is compared with data provided by the tilt
sensor and barometer.”
From the release notes other great achievments are
- the ability to create API’s with Linux (My brother-In-Law might love this one)
- Improved TILT detection
- Large Job Performance synchronization.
- As always here is a Link to the full release notes
Cyclone Register Core 2020 is finally here and these are the two biggest reason to use it! Thanks goes out to Paul Burrows and the Hexagon team for all the slides.
My First reason for updating to Cyclone 2020 is it finally brings Group Visual Alignments!
This means no longer needing to grab two single set ups from two groupings to align. This has been a FARO type feature forever and its finally here in Cyclone! So FARO users who have converted to take advantage the speed and simplicity of the RTC360 rejoice!
Simply grab two groups and visually align. One of the simplest workflows I have seen so far.
My secondary reason to update to 2020 is you can now TruSlice much more like Register 360.
I’ve never enjoyed the many steps it takes to use truslicer in Cyclone. I really appreciate this feature. Simply go to Registration, QA Quick Slice and choose your AXIS. It really couldn’t get any easier than that.
Lastly, there is a ton of other bug fixes, updates and new features in Cyclone 2020. If you’d like to read all the release notes check here. If your not in Europe and you really have a hard time downloading you can get Cyclone 2020 here. Also Paul Burrows and his group are putting out a ton of High quality Lunch and Learn videos. I’d suggest giving him a follow on LinkedIn and checking out his video series.
Well I am off to add Cyclone 2020 to my computer and start digging into the new tools myself.
Ever run into an issue when archiving a project with Register 360? Every try to Archive to find that the file create is just too large? In this video I will quickly walk you through the “FAST ARCHIVE” feature and help you export and re-import a fast archive. So you may be asking, “Why would I fast archive in the first place”? FA gives you the ability to easy sync or archive large point clouds with your favorite platforms such as Sharepoint, Google Drive, Dropbox, Box and others. FA gets your around file size limitations as no SINGLE file will get larger than a couple hundred megs at best. So please enjoy and feel free to comment. This is meant to be simple and easy to understand. I really, hope this helps!
Leica Geosystems part of Hexagon officially release Register 360 and Cloudworx 2020 today. After reading the release notes I am sure everyone will be pleased with the much needed additional tools in Cloudworx for Revit and Navisworks. Also you can now export section boxes and use Paul Burrows favorite tool “section cut” through a 360 images to DXF. I am providing links to download from my site below.
This is an extremely basic video covering your first CLM software install, activating software licenses, and 3 quick trouble shooting tips.
I recently had a client ask me how to separate scan data out by floors using Register 360. In my mind the best and currently only way to really get what my client wanted was by using Site Maps. So instead of trying to explain this over the phone, I created another quick 4 minute video. I hope that anyone looking for Site Map help finds this Video useful.
A friend of mine asked me to help him with a very simple video on using Leica Cyclone Register 360 DATA inside of Leica Cyclone 9.4.2. The first video is just a very simple way to Import your Leica Cyclone Register Project into Leica Cyclone 9.4.2
